Last weekend was a freezing blizzard, snow falling and temperatures that threatened to keep us all inside, huddled under blankets. It was the dark, deep of winter. This weekend is the first weekend of spring, and the birds are chirping. The snow has all melted. It’s time to get outside and stretch your legs, breathe in the fresh spring air.
But the nights are still cool, and cool nights are the best time to cuddle up on the couch and watch a good movie or TV show. There are plenty of those to choose from this weekend! As always, I’ve scoured the internet for all the best new streaming options, as well as what’s airing weekly.
If you have any tips or I missed something, shoot me a message on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. You can check out last weekend’s streaming guide right here.
ForbesWhat To Watch This Weekend: New Shows And Movies To Stream On Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV And MoreBy Erik Kain
What’s New & Notable This Weekend
Ludwig (Britbox)

The BBC mystery series Ludwig just came to BritBox (well, the first two episodes have so far) and it’s absolutely wonderful. I’ve seen the entire six-episode season and can safely say this is one of the best mystery shows I’ve seen in a long time, and one of the most charming. David Mitchell plays twins John and James Taylor. The former has to impersonate the latter when James, a police detective, mysteriously vanishes. John Taylor, who goes by the pen-name Ludwig, is a master puzzle-setter and a deeply awkward individual, but his brilliant mind makes him the perfect fit for a homicide detective. It’s very Monk-ish. You can read my review right here.
The Residence (Netflix)
Speaking of murder mysteries, the new Netflix series The Residence has a decidedly Agatha Christie vibe. The show stars Uzo Aduba (Orange Is The New Black) as detective Cordelia Cupp, who must solve a murder that’s taken place in the White House. It’s currently at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and looks like a very charming little mystery thriller. I guess this is the weekend for charming new mystery shows!
Happy Face (Paramount+)
O’Dessa (Hulu)
I’m instantly intrigued by O’Dessa’s premise: A post-apocalyptic rock opera starring Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, whose treasured guitar is stolen by bandits in the wasteland, forcing her to go on a mission to get it back, all while trying to take down the evil villain Plutonovich, played by The White Lotus star Murray Bartlett. It’s very Mad Maxian. Unfortunately, reviews are mixed with a 47% critic score and 43% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Wicked (Peacock)
Wicked was one of my very favorite movies of 2024 and while superfans like your humble narrator already own the 4K Blu-ray version of the film, now a wider audience can enjoy it streaming on Peacock. This is one of the best musicals of all time with standout performances from its stars, Cynthia Erivo and Arianna Grande. Read my review here.
Anora (Hulu)
The Academy Award winning Anora is finally available to stream on Hulu. I’ve been waiting to watch this and while it’s been very divisive, I think it looks like a fun refresh of the Pretty Woman story.
Sing Sing (HBO / Max)
Colman Domingo’s talents were wasted on Fear The Walking Dead, so it’s wonderful to see him getting really great roles. In Sing Sing he plays a man in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He finds new purpose by staging comedy shows behind bars.
What I’m Watching Weekly
Two great shows ended this week. The Pitt wrapped up its run on HBO/Max, though I’m quite behind so I still have lots of episodes to look forward to. And my favorite show on TV, Severance, gave us its grand Season 2 finale. You can read my review of the finale here. It was absolutely phenomenal, and there’s so much to unpack. Just wow.
The Wheel Of Time (Prime Video)
The Wheel Of Time started out pretty bad. Season 1 was a hot mess. Season 2 was a vast improvement, however, which is a rarity in TV. Season 3 is here and it’s even better so far, becoming a show I am genuinely enjoying and one of the best fantasy series streaming. You can read my Season 3 review here.
The White Lotus (HBO / Max)
One of the shows I’m covering religiously at this point, The White Lotus remains at the top of my list every week. It’s just so damn good! I know some people (ahem, Paul) disagree, but they’re wrong. Objectively wrong. This is one of the best character studies out there, and darkly hilarious every week. The new Thai setting is also quite delicious. I have no idea where this is going, but I can’t wait to find out! You can read my review of Episode 5 right here.
Other Shows Currently Airing
- Yellowjackets (Paramount+) — I’m all caught up on Yellowjackets but I’ve been behind on my reviews. I’m just . . . having trouble caring, even with the big twists and turns this season has taken. I’ll have some thoughts up soon, though I suspect they’ll be more critical than positive.
- Reacher Season 3 (Prime Video) — For whatever reason, Reacher just can’t find the groove it settled on in Season 1, which was pretty much pitch perfect as an adaptation of Lee Child’s first Reacher novel. Season 3 is better than 2, but it’s still missing that magic. (Review)
Beyond this, we have both 1923 on Paramount+ and The Righteous Gemstones on HBO/Max, as well as House Of David on Prime Video which I keep meaning to watch. Dope Thief is off to a promising start on Apple TV, and Dark Winds is must-watch TV on AMC. I still haven’t started Daredevil: Born Again, but I’ve heard good things. What else did I miss? What are you watching these days? What should I put on this list or add to my backlog? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook.
